Opening your horizons to new events and experiences is one of the most interesting things a person can do with their life. We all know what to expect when we frequent the same place with the same people. On Thursday, June 17, 2010 I attended Love Jones Thursday at Boston’s House of Jazz. The crowd was small and sparse as it was game seven of the NBA finals. The show began with an introduction by the Princess of Poetry. Dressed in all black she caressed the microphone with grace conveying the message, “I am Poetry”, accompanied by a beautiful ten member live band called SoultrII. The melding of poetry with the smooth melodic background of the accapella vocals was a welcoming breath of fresh air. Lester Howard, host, poet, author, and event producer graced the stage to introduce the feature performer for the evening. He advised that the feature was an unassuming character that was able to grasp his attention like no other.
After the introduction, a slender man with beautiful spaghetti thin dreds approaches the stage, ironically shouting, that he is not that, “Love Jones” poet. CP Maze, creator of The Concrete Generation, Houston, TX native, and Marine for the United States of America immediately informed the audience, that this is not your every day poet. His voice is explosive as he lets you get a glimpse of the atrocities that he has seen abroad and her on American soil.
He compares the war of Middle Eastern countries to the war that we place upon ourselves through poverty, mis-education, and lack luster desire to achieve more. Pyrotechno was performed with a solemn introspective look at himself in the mirror. He exclaimed “Dear Diary, I have a habit for building beautiful relationships, Dear Lover, at the first sign of a cold shower; I will burn what we built down, Dear Rock Bottom, thank you for everything that you taught me.” Reflecting on this poem allows one to see the mistakes they have made and make attempts to improve their relationships, empowered with the knowledge that there is hope no matter what the circumstance.
Mania is another member of the Concrete Generation team who performed with CP Maze. His approach to poetry was very methodical and informative. “Medically acclaimed clergy preach against defect and affliction testifying from the new aged bible of prescriptions. Dope dealers in lab coats; carry pens and plastic bottles where thugs once wore their guns.” Mania depicted the medical profession in an inspiring way that challenged my senses and forced me to think about the profiteering that happens every day with insurance companies and the big business of the medical field.
The night ended with a heartfelt emotion of prose and an inspiration that I needed to continue on with my work of influencing the education of our people. Words mean so much and can be so A-Maze-Ing.

How to Create Small Talk
I am not one to be shy when speaking to others, but I have encountered plenty of people who are not comfortable with the concept. A "BIG" part of business is networking, and with so many networking events, the shy need to break out of their shell. Here are some tips from Lady Bizness to aid everyone into finding out about others.
#1 Ask open-ended questions.
If you ask a person yes and no questions, you should expect to get yes and no answers. That can inhibit the conversation and make an already uncomfortable person stay in their shell. So, we recommend asking questions that will help a person to engage. For example: Instead of asking do you have any children? Ask how do you feel about children? This is a question that forces a person to reflect on the answer and give feedback. Therefore you can get that information and ask additional questions based on their answers.
#2 Ask WHY?
As grownups we tend to shy away from asking people why? But, children always ask why. Take it back to your roots and let a person defend their logic or reasoning. This allows you to see their point of view, agree, disagree, challenge, and give examples. Asking why also creates a conversation instead of a stalemate.
#3 Speak first
Going to the networking event is the first step, but what good is it if you sit in a corner. Just go up to people and say "Hi, My Name is...". People are already there to meet others, so they expect you to talk to them. And as a matter of fact they appreciate it when you talk to them, so be like Nike and Just Do it!
#4 Check your body language
Arms folded, head bowed low, and texting do not say come hither. Be engaged at events and look like you want to meet others. Simply smiling and moving around a room are great ways to appear available. Have your business cards in hand to give to others and that is a way to lead into conversations. Arms being folded tend to show a guarded and un-open feeling to people. Having your head bowed, typically gives people the feeling that you don't want them to talk to you. Texting may give the appearance of being interested in other things which are not in your immediate surroundings. So give it your best shot to look interested because if you're not, then why did you come?
#5 Ask General Questions
Where are you from?
What do you do?
Where did you go to school at?
Do you like to travel?
What events do you have coming up?
Do you know of anyone who may need (xyz) services/products?
When can you meet to discuss (xyz) further?
These types of questions can lead to great discussions and make you a new friend, associate, or business partner.
We at Lady Bizness pride ourselves on creating relationships, so please come to any of our events if you want to meet others who are willing to openly converse.

Non-Profit Startup 411
This post was inspired by a woman who made a posting on Facebook about her desire to start a non-profit organization. Comments came in that reflected, in my view, a negative energy. The responders advised her that she needed so much money, and support, and they told her how hard it was going to be.
Now if you are a person that puts forth great energy and takes pride in your work, whatever that may be, then you know that anything worth having is worth working hard for. So, in my perspective, there is always something to work for and towards and giving 110% is the only way to make anything that you want to happen successful. Now we at Lady Bizness want to take this time to put out motto "Women Helping Women" and one of our organization's principles "Enlighten" and put it in action for all.
I started Lady Bizness with a desire to help people and the knowledge that I have gained from inception to present day is that there is information available, people willing to help, and relationships that need to be cultivated when starting a non-profit or for profit venture. Personally, I incorporated the organization via LegalZoom.com. I wanted to go with an organization that has a proven track record and great standings with the better business bureau.
Groups that can help you expand your knowledge are synerG, in the Triad area. They are an organization that promotes social and professional networking, leadership opportunities and serves as a clearinghouse for information for young adults in the 21-39 year-old age demographic. synerG values the creation of opportunities and atmospheres that promote connectedness, diversity/inclusiveness and accessibility.More information on this organization and their events can be found at SynerG.org.
The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) promotes an efficient, viable, and inclusive nonprofit sector that supports the growth, learning, and development of young professionals. Information on this organization can be found at http://ynpntriad.wordpress.com.
Eagle Resourcing Networking is an organization that I had the pleasure of being introduced to last week. I went to meeting and felt an overwhelming sense of belonging and motivation to continue my efforts in the non-profit world. This organization boasts a reputation of group and individual enhancement through relationships like non I've seen before. They have regular meetings that are free to attend and they welcome you to bring others with you to multiply your connections and market your business. Information for this organization can be found at http://www.eagleresourcingnetworks.com.
I recommend taking the time to really develop a business plan to see what you want to achieve. For help and review of your business plan you can go to S.C.O.R.E, which is an organization of professional business people that provide business counseling, mentoring, and training. You can meet someone in person or go online and throw around ideas and take free webinar classes to gauge your personal development as a director/business owner at score.org.
These organizations are only three out of a myriad of organizations, networking meetings, and real people who work with nonprofits daily. Remember that planning is key and non-profits to do money to allow them to function. Fundraisers are a reality, but every event does not have to be free for you to run a nonprofit. Budgets and basic accounting knowledge are imperative. You an take classes at your local colleges that only last for one day or night to get a better perspective.
If you need help with financing then please contact an associate of mine, Mr. Idris Talin, who is a Wealth Planner. His company is Capital Asset Management Partners, LLC, he can be reached at Idris.Talib@Camp-LLC.com or simply give him a call at (704) 501-7655. He can help you organize your personal finances to provide you with additional funds, you may not even know you had, that aid in your business endeavors.
In addition, you can contact Mr. Jon Prather of Media Marketing Management who also specializes in business advisement and financial strategies to get your business where you want it to be. He can be contacted at (704) 309-3619 and at www.mediamarketingmangement.com. If you contact either of these fine gentlemen then please and tell them that Chisa sent you.
I will take the lead and host a class on Non-Profits in the upcoming months to provide more direct information for the general public. Please stay tuned to the blog and connect online at Facebook.com/LadyBizness, LadyBizness.com, and LadyBiznessOnline@Yahoo.com.
Lady Bizness is committed to helping others and we will continue to provide valuable information and links to other businesses and organizations that are able to provide information and direct aid. I hope that you know you are not alone in the struggle to get your ideas out and that there are people to help you in every way. I want to have each person with a dream see it become a reality. To make that happen we can not let naysayers discourage our action with their inaction. We should do out research, network, ask questions, and evaluate our goals daily to make sure that we are on track and held accountable for our decisions.

Dare to Be Different
In these days and times I am so against conformity. I like to make my own way, set trends instead of follow them and be unique. There is value in being yourself. So, make an effort to give a little more of yourself to people who don't know the real you. Don't wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them
great. So, what can you do to be unique and seek your opportunities to stand out?
great. So, what can you do to be unique and seek your opportunities to stand out?

The Power to Live Your Dreams
The day you take complete responsibility
for yourself, the day you stop making any
excuses, that's the day you start moving
down the road to success.
No one else can do it for you.
Only you can make it happen.
You're the only one that can live
your life.
Success on any major scale requires you
to accept responsibility for that success.
It's up to you to choose the thoughts and
actions that will lead you to success. As
we all know, success will not attack you.
Your life will be what you make of it.
Nothing will ever happen by itself.
Success will come your way once you realize
that you have to make it come your way through
your own actions.
Copyright 2008 Max Steingart
Now what I want to know is how can you use this to make today more productive?
Lady Bizness will be successful because we are taking the steps needed to connect, correct, and collect all the blessings we deserve.
Can you say the same?
